I am furniture

“I Am Furniture” explored the boundaries between object, body and social norm through a series of sculptural heating structures. At the center stood a classical radiator, detached from the wall and repositioned in space as an autonomous object, extended with tubes forming the outline of a chair. The work questioned what furniture actually is, while simultaneously reflecting on freedom, conformity and the courage to step outside prescribed structures. By disconnecting the radiator from its fixed functional position and turning it into a movable, electric object with a plug, the work became a metaphor for breaking loose from systems, routines and expectations — an object literally and symbolically coming out of line.
As curator David Rosenberg described:
“While it certainly does not neglect notions of convenience and well being, his work is highly conceptual and philosophical. He answers the question ‘what is a piece of furniture?’, with a series of strange objects and structures that tend to erase the frontiers between machine, sculpture and furniture.”
